Common Questions

Compliance FAQ

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification, or CMMC, is the Department of Defense program that verifies contractors protect Federal Contract Information and Controlled Unclassified Information. Level 2 is built on the 110 practices in NIST SP 800-171.

Most organizations start with CMMC Readiness, which maps where you stand against the requirements. From there the right next step is usually clear, whether that is Gov Cloud for CUI, advisory support, or monitoring through a Security Operations Center.

Readiness is the preparation work, including gap analysis, documentation, and remediation. Certification is the formal assessment of your environment against the requirements, performed by an authorized third party for contracts that call for it.

No. CMMC builds on them. DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 remain the foundation, and CMMC adds a verification step so contractors can show they meet those requirements rather than only attest to it.

It depends on where your Controlled Unclassified Information lives. If CUI passes through Microsoft 365 or email, a Gov Cloud environment such as GCC High is often the cleanest way to meet the boundary requirements. We can review your data flow and confirm what your contracts require.
